Guangzhou International Light Festival 2024 closes with AI as an attraction
On the evening of November 18, the 2024 Guangzhou International Light Festival drew to a close.
This year's festival featured a format of one main axis venue complemented by two additional sub-venues. The main axis venue encompassed Huacheng Square, Haixinsha Asian Games Park, and Canton Tower. At the same time, the sub-venues were split between the banks of the Pearl River, which included the facades of 24 buildings along Jiangyan Road, Liede Bridge, Haixin Bridge, and the west side of Pazhou, and the Huangpu District venue, centred around the Science Square in Science City.
With "AI" as the creative theme, the festival explored the fusion of lighting technology with AI and future technologies. Through AIGC, visual arts, and interactive light and shadow experiences, visitors were given a glimpse into what life might be like under advanced AI development. Various immersive works were incorporated alongside static light installations, creating giant immersive light and shadow spaces that showcased future urban lifestyles.
Wang Li, the designer of "AI-CITY", expressed that the work merged AI technology with the concept of urban development, providing visitors with an immersive experience and constructing scenarios of future life. Visitors could witness future urban lifestyles through projections and step into the works to feel them.
The festival solicited nearly 50 designer works from domestic and international creators and called for related performance videos globally, crafting a visual feast of light and shadow shared worldwide. During the festival, a dynamic light installation at the South Square of Huacheng Square, in conjunction with Canton Tower, presented a 360-degree circular light show, highlighting the vibrancy of the core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Since its inception in 2011, the Guangzhou International Light Festival has earned a reputation as one of the world's three major light festivals, renowned for its scale, innovation, and visitor numbers. Each edition has combined local culture with modern lighting technology through unique themes and creative designs, creating dazzling and dreamlike night scenes and setting records for attendance at international light festivals.
