Dongguan's Songshan Lake emerges as a hot tourism spot in Greater Bay Area
During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, tourism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area remained robust, with Songshan Lake in Dongguan becoming a popular destination. From October 1 to 8, the area's five major commercial districts attracted over 1.57 million visitors, a 42.7% increase year-on-year, driven by families and young travelers seeking short getaways and immersive experiences.
To meet the growing holiday demand, Songshan Lake launched the "Art and Fun Consumer Campaign 2025," investing 5.3 million yuan in subsidies for accommodation, dining, shopping, and car purchases. A car subsidy of up to 7,500 yuan generated over 30 million yuan in sales, while promotions such as lucky draws and instant discounts resulted in more than six million yuan in transactions and nearly 40 million yuan in overall business revenue, with over 6,000 coupons redeemed.
Zhang, a visitor from Shenzhen, extended his two-day trip after enjoying the food and shopping subsidies and the opportunity to test-drive new energy vehicles, stating that the experience exceeded his expectations. The consumer campaign runs through November, with additional discounts to come, providing ongoing benefits for visitors.
As Dongguan's high-tech hub, Songshan Lake combines innovation-driven enterprises with nearly eight square kilometers of freshwater lakes and 40 kilometers of greenways, creating a unique blend of ecology and technology that fuels its cultural and tourism development.
During the holiday, Songshan Lake transcended traditional tourism by offering a three-dimensional experience across land, water, and air, enhanced by immersive events and first-store attractions that appeal to diverse visitor interests.
High-tech attractions such as driverless boat rides, helicopter tours, and go-kart racing drew over 1,500 participants, particularly among younger visitors. On the commercial side, Songshan Lake MixC introduced over 50 new and first stores in South China and Dongguan, while the "Cat Lemon Garden" exhibition proved popular with families, attracting nearly one million visitors during the eight-day holiday.
Cultural experiences flourished at the ULand Cultural and Arts District, which hosted ten days of daytime art exhibitions and food markets, alongside nighttime concerts and stargazing movies. The district welcomed 217,000 visitors and generated 3.2 million yuan, a 60% increase compared to typical daily revenue during the May Day holiday.
With supportive policies, innovative experiences, and abundant resources, Songshan Lake is evolving from a high-tech hub into a vibrant cultural and tourism destination, offering visitors from surrounding areas an ideal spot for a micro-vacation.
