Zizu Temple is located in the Baiyun Cave scenic area at the northwest foot of Xiqiao Mountain, a 5A-rated tourist attraction in Nanhai District, Foshan. It was founded in the 42nd year of the Qianlong reign (1777) with a donation from the residents of Jiancunbao Village and was originally known as Yunxi Academy. In the 19th year of the Daoguang reign (1839), it was renovated and renamed as the Zizu Temple, dedicated to worshiping Cang Jie (the legendary historian of the Yellow Emperor and the creator of Chinese characters). The temple's porch columns are inscribed with couplets written by renowned scholars and calligraphers. It is currently a Foshan Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Unit and one of the best-preserved Zizu Temples in Guangdong Province.
Today, the temple has been upgraded into the Xiqiao Mountain Chinese Character Micro Museum, integrating intangible cultural heritage, Chinese character culture, and modern education into one experience space. The museum features areas such as the History of Chinese Characters, Chinese Character Cultural Interaction Zone, and Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Zone. It primarily showcases the development history of Chinese characters, the evolution of writing, the invention of paper, and the experience of paper-making.
