The Longtang Poetry Society is located at No. 68, Wenmingli, Enguang Community, Zhumiao Sub-district, Foshan, to the east of the Li Chung Shing Tong Po Chai Pills ancestral shop. It is currently a Foshan Municipal Cultural Relic Protection Unit. Originally the main pharmaceutical workshop of Li Chung Shing Tong, it was founded by Li Zhaoji, the owner of Li Chung Shing Tong, in the early years of the Republic of China. The building combines a traditional gatehouse with a Western-style main building and annex. The main building has an "L"-shaped floor plan with two stories, a gable roof, and is constructed of blue bricks and wood. The facade features Western-style arches, with grey plaster floral patterns between the arches. The junction between the main building and the annex is connected by a wooden staircase with intricately carved wooden railings. To the north of the annex, a gatehouse serves as the courtyard entrance, and the landscape wall on the north side is decorated with double-sided murals and grey plaster ornaments. This, along with the west-facing exterior wall of Li Chung Shing Tong’s ancestral shop, encloses a courtyard with ancient trees, creating an elegant environment. According to the Foshan Zhongyi Township Chronicle - Education Section, the Longtang Poetry Society was originally located in the Shetingpu area of Zhaoshi Street in Lushen Garden and was founded in 1914 by Wu Rongguang’s grandnephew, Wu Quan. It was originally named the Shilong Poetry Society.
The Longtang Poetry Society was a gathering place for scholars, and cultural activities were very vibrant at the time. Today, the society still retains its ancient charm while embracing new ideas.
The Longtang Poetry Society has introduced multiple workshops, art exhibitions, and regularly holds lectures, seminars, and research activities related to traditional culture, creating a strong artistic atmosphere. In 2023 and 2024, it launched immersive modern dance dramas Lingnan Traces: The Sword and the Hairpin and kung fu drama The Soul of Hongwu, both receiving widespread acclaim.
